Article: Motorhoming in the USA and Canada

One reader asks "We are going to Canada and the States and are planning to Motor home around. We would love some tips"

Having not been on a motorhoming trip to the US or Canada I can not speak from personal experience but I can recommend a great ezine with lots of great info on motorhoming in the United States. "RV Travel" is an ezine published fortnightly with articles, tips and resources for motorhomes. There are regular articles on "Boondocking" or "Freecamping" as we call it in Australia and "A Women's Perspective" to name a few.

A recent edition has an article which talks about the same problems we are having here in regard to "Campgrounds" or Caravan Parks as we know them. Campground owners are asking council to ban overnight stays in town unless in an official campground. Sound familiar doesn't it. Maybe the American's can learn something from our Campervan and Motorhome Club who are working with councils and governments at all levels in all states to ensure that the motorhomer has access to all levels of camping spots as well as working with the caravan park associations to persuade them to offer services that the self contained motorhomer requires.

The website is also a great resource for all the current info. You can buy books on Walmart locations, truck stop locations and services, and "Next Exit" services. You can join the Good Sam Club for camping discounts or find campground with wireless internet access (Australia will catch up on this one day). You can purchase books, DVD, videos and magazines or find a club.
