Article:Short Trips in South East Queensland and Northern NSW

An email from a subscriber this month asks about the best places to go for their first family motorhoming trip. They will start in south east Queensland

Glad to see you getting into "the lifestyle". We have travelled in our motorhome with our kids for many years and they love it.

Probably the best place for itineraries if your local tourist bureau or Queensland Holidays . If it is more "the experience" that you are looking for the actual destination does not matter all that much. Your proposed route to 1770 and Cania Gorge sounds great. Staying away from the coast would allow more opportunity for free camping, as there is more available than along the coast.

Just make sure you do not plan to go too far in the 7 days. The first day should be short drive to give all of you time to make sure you fully understand all the functions of the fitout when you stop for the first night. For the rest of the trip I find 2-3 hour travelling each day a good maximum to allow plenty of time for relaxing and seeing the sites. If you are members of the Campervan and Motorhome Club download their free camps list from their website. Depending on the facilities of the motorhome you will be using try to camp out in a free camp at least one night - it is the best way to go in my opinion. Not only is it cheaper you are more likely to meet people who are willing to meet you and chat about the local area and the best things they have done or seen.

Hope you enjoy the experience.
