Article:Noisy Water Pump
|
I have had an email this month from a subscriber who complains about an "extremely noisy water pump". "It is situated at the rear under the seat; I have packed it in foam rubber and tried several other methods of silencing it but to no avail." Thanks for your enquiry. Be careful with the foam rubber packed around the pump, as it can get quite warm. They need some air to keep them cool. As for suggestions to keep it quieter - Is it the pump itself, or the way it is mounted that is making it noisy. Remove its mounts then run it. Is it quieter when not attached? Look at the mounting. Is the body of the pump touching the floor and causing a vibration? Have one of the rubber feet snapped off? Is the panel on which it is mounted solid and not vibrating? This could be causing an echo Do you have an accumulator? This eliminates low speed running or "burping" which is usually the most annoying noise the pump makes. Does the pump have to prime every time? This could make it noisy. If the tanks are lower than the pump a one way valve on the inlet can help to prevent all the water draining from the pump by gravity every time the pump stops. |
