Article:Getting Started

Another question from a subscriber this months goes like this. I am 63yrs young and on my own. I would like a vehicle that has shower and loo and preferably a double/queen bed that is made up all the time. Not too old and not too expensive. Would I get one say up to $50k with these things...could you point me in the right direction as to who could assist me with my enquiries.

To answer this enquiry my first question is - Are you a member of the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia ? The club is a great resource where you can meet many like-minded people. You can join the club as an associate member, go along to one of their outings, ask around, and have a look at how other people do it and the many options of what is available, and pros and cons of each.

There is also the Solos chapter of the CMCA, which is a very large active chapter who get together regularly.

Other options are the for sale adds in the "Wanderer" which is the monthly magazine of the CMCA, or the Campervan and Motorhome Trader which is available from your local newsagent.

It is quite feasible to get a motorhome with what you want for $50,000 although it may be a bit older. Do be aware though if the vehicle is over 4.5tonne you will need a different class of licence. This makes the Mazda T3500's and Toyota Coasters very popular as they are below this weight but still very roomy for one or two people

There are several articles on this web site on things to consider when purchasing a motorhome. Go to this link to see all the articles
