Article: Car caddy or tilt trailer
| An
email this month from a subscriber asks "I am trying to work out the
best way to tow my Mitsubishi Lancer VRX. After much surfing on the net
I think a car caddy is probably the way for me to go. The other option is
a tilt trailer. I would welcome info on either of these options including
manufacturers if any are known to you."
The first place I suggest you look for info is the Motorhoming Lifestyle website for articles on "Options for getting around once you are there", "A-framing - a lesson to be learned" and "Towing with and A-frame or car caddy". There is a lot of useful information in these article on the pros and cons of each
As for manufactures, we bought our A-frame from Hitch 'n' go and would thoroughly recommend them. Gary the owner was extremely helpful and he made an adaptor for our Mazda 323 which is not one of his normal range. The A-frames are engineer certified to meet Australian Standards. You can find a list of Australian distributors at www.hitchngo.com.au
Tilt trailers can be sourced from www.tiltatrailer.com.au . These trailers are also made to comply with Australian Standards.
Other options for buying are ebay and your local trading magazine or website. With these you will usually buy second hand but do have the advantage of being cheaper. |
